Today marks exactly six years since Dr. Rima, her husband Issam, and their three children, Ali, Isabella and Giselle, were tragically killed by a drunk driver.
We reflect on Rima’s power to heal and uplift others as a physician, Issam’s commitment to building a more equitable world, Ali’s integrity and intelligence, Isabella’s warmth and love for animals and Giselle’s joy and radiance that could light up any room.
To keep the Abbas family’s memory, impact and legacy alive, Dr. Rima’s sister, Rana Abbas Taylor, and her husband, Tom Taylor, established The Abbas Family Red Wagon Fund at the Center for Arab American Philanthropy (CAAP). The Fund continues to support causes that mattered most to the family.
The Fund at CAAP includes scholarships in the family’s memory, supporting students in Northville and Dearborn, MI. This year, the Fund granted $13,500 in scholarship support to students committed to the values of generosity and community care that the family held dear.
Beyond education, the Fund also supports various social and humanitarian relief efforts, both in the U.S. and abroad, granting a total of $84,050 to organizations working on issues ranging from disaster relief to addressing gun violence.
