About Us

The Center for Arab American Philanthropy (CAAP) is the only full-service Arab American philanthropic institution operating on a community foundation model in the country. We promote, facilitate and celebrate Arab American giving through education, donor outreach and services, and grantmaking. CAAP harnesses the collective power of Arab American giving and knowledge to strengthen the voice of our community in American civil society. CAAP is currently housed at ACCESS in Dearborn, Mich. in partnership with the National Network for Arab American Communities.

Celebrating a Culture of Giving

When we think of the “American Dream” what comes to mind is the potential to do anything, to be anyone, to realize any achievement. Since this country was founded, that potential has been the beacon of hope for countless immigrants.

Like those who have made the journey before us, Arab immigrants and their sons and daughters after them have made important contributions to the growth of this country. As doctors and scientists, engineers, bankers, teachers, entrepreneurs and entertainers – and so much more – our contributions and our heritage are woven inextricably into the fabric of American society. Indeed, we are living the quintessential American Dream.

But this dream is not a continuum – a one-way path toward material and professional success. President Abraham Lincoln articulated a truth of the American experience when he exhorted us to do together what we cannot do as well for ourselves. In this way we come full circle, weaving our traditions of generosity and hospitality into American society.

Center for Arab American Philanthropy (CAAP), founded in 2006 to develop, support and enhance a culture of giving within the Arab American community, is the only national, full-service philanthropic institution in the Arab American community. Through education, training and donor outreach, CAAP supports and celebrates Arab American philanthropy, giving Arab Americans the ability to leverage our giving in support of the issues, causes and organizations we care passionately about.

CAAP joins our voices in unity to amplify our story. In doing so, we develop the power to create meaningful change in our communities and our country. We are firmly planting our roots in American society, building pride in our community and leaving a legacy for our children and grandchildren. This is our heritage for future generations – that our philanthropy gives strength to our own community and leaves its mark in our broader society.

By developing a culture of philanthropy we come full circle, realizing the true American Dream, the one that ties our collective futures to the common good: the well-being of all.
